Electronic Banking Gateway
Full Form of EBG
What is EBG?
An Electronic Banking Gateway (EBG) is a secure digital platform that connects a bank's internal systems to external payment networks, enabling online transactions such as fund transfers, bill payments, and e-commerce purchases. In India, EBGs are widely used by public and private sector banks as part of their internet banking and mobile banking infrastructure. They act as intermediaries that authenticate and route transaction data between the bank, the customer, and payment aggregators like NPCI or Visa. EBGs are critical for services like NEFT, RTGS, UPI, and IMPS, ensuring data encryption and compliance with RBI guidelines. Indian banks deploy customized EBG solutions to handle high volumes of real-time payments, especially during peak shopping seasons or government disbursement cycles. These gateways also support features like two-factor authentication and transaction limits. In competitive exams for banking roles (e.g., IBPS PO, SBI Clerk), knowledge of EBG and related digital payment terms is often tested under the topics of banking technology and financial awareness.
