What is DZR?
DZR stands for Dezincification Resistant, a property engineered into specific brass alloys to prevent a corrosion process known as dezincification. In this phenomenon, zinc gradually leaches out of brass when exposed to aggressive or hot water conditions, leaving behind a weak, porous copper skeleton that can cause fittings to fail without warning. DZR brass typically contains small additions of arsenic, antimony, or phosphorus, which inhibit the loss of zinc and preserve the structural integrity of the component over time. In India, DZR brass fittings are extensively manufactured in industrial clusters such as Jamnagar in Gujarat, which supplies a significant share of the world's plumbing components. These fittings are mandatory in hot water systems, potable water supply lines, and gas distribution networks under Indian standards like IS 319.
