Direct Money Transfer
Full Form of DMT
What is DMT?
Direct Money Transfer (DMT) is an electronic funds transfer service offered by Indian banks to facilitate instant or near-instant movement of money between accounts within the same bank or to other banks using the NEFT or RTGS rails. It is commonly used by individuals and businesses for one-time or recurring payments, remittances, and bill settlements. In India, DMT is part of the broader digital payment ecosystem and is often available through net banking, mobile apps, and at bank branches. The service plays a key role in reducing reliance on cash and cheques, especially in urban and semi-urban areas. Customers can initiate a DMT by providing the recipient's account number, IFSC code, and the amount. Many banks also offer DMT through cash deposit machines and business correspondents. For competitive exams like IBPS PO, SBI PO, and RBI Grade B, knowledge of DMT and its distinction from IMPS, UPI, and RTGS is important in the banking awareness section. The term is widely recognized in Indian banking literature and daily financial transactions.
