Central Vigilance Bureau
Full Form of CVB
What is CVB?
The Central Vigilance Bureau (CVB) is a premier anti-corruption agency of the Government of India, established in 1964 under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions. It functions as the apex body for preventing and investigating corruption in central government departments and public sector undertakings. The CVB operates under the superintendence of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and is responsible for examining allegations of corruption, recommending action against corrupt officials, and conducting inquiries. It is commonly referred to in matters of vigilance clearance, departmental proceedings, and anti-corruption drives across central government offices. The bureau plays a crucial role in maintaining integrity in public administration by advising on systemic improvements and conducting surprise checks. For competitive exams like UPSC Civil Services, SSC CGL, and banking exams, questions related to CVB's functions, its relationship with the CVC, and landmark cases often appear in the General Awareness section. The CVB is distinct from the CBI in that it focuses on preventive vigilance and systemic reform, while the CBI handles criminal investigations.
