What is CNJL?
The Centre for National Justice and Law (CNJL) is a prominent Indian legal research and policy advocacy organization headquartered in New Delhi. Founded to strengthen the rule of law and promote judicial reform across the country, the CNJL conducts in-depth research on constitutional matters, criminal justice, and human rights issues affecting Indian citizens. The organization regularly publishes policy papers, organizes national conferences, and collaborates with law schools, bar councils, and the judiciary to improve access to justice in rural and underserved areas. It also runs legal literacy programmes in partnership with state governments and NGOs, helping ordinary citizens understand their fundamental rights and procedural entitlements. The Centre has played a consultative role in drafting amendments to procedural laws and has submitted recommendations to various Law Commission of India reports. Law students preparing for the UPSC Civil Services examination, judiciary entrance tests, and UGC NET Law often refer to CNJL publications for contemporary legal developments. Several senior advocates and former judges serve on its advisory board, lending the body considerable credibility in academic and policy circles.
