Bihar Urban Health
Full Form of BUH
What is BUH?
Bihar Urban Health (BUH) is a state-level initiative under the National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) aimed at improving healthcare access for urban populations in Bihar, India. Launched in the early 2010s, BUH focuses on slum dwellers, migrant workers, and other vulnerable groups in cities such as Patna, Gaya, and Muzaffarpur. It operates through Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs), mobile health units, and community outreach programs that provide maternal and child health services, immunisation, and treatment for communicable diseases like tuberculosis and malaria. BUH also addresses non-communicable diseases through screening camps and health awareness drives. The programme is implemented by the Bihar State Health Society in coordination with municipal corporations. In examinations like UPSC Civil Services and State PCS, BUH is often cited as an example of targeted urban health policy in high-density, low-income settings. Its success depends on inter-departmental coordination and effective use of technology for data tracking. BUH represents a critical component of India's broader commitment to achieving universal health coverage under the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly for marginalised urban communities.
