Bachelor of Pediatric Nursing
Full Form of BPN
What is BPN?
The Bachelor of Pediatric Nursing (BPN) is an undergraduate degree program that prepares registered nurses to specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents. In India, this degree is offered by several nursing colleges and universities under the purview of the Indian Nursing Council. The curriculum covers child development, pediatric pharmacology, neonatal care, and family-centered nursing practices. BPN graduates are trained to work in pediatric wards, neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), and community child health programs. The program typically spans four years and includes clinical rotations in government and private hospitals. It is particularly relevant for nurses aspiring to work in India’s large public health system, where child mortality and malnutrition remain critical issues. The BPN degree is increasingly valued as India expands its focus on maternal and child health under initiatives like the National Health Mission. For nursing exams such as the AIIMS NORCET or state-level nursing recruitment, specialized pediatric knowledge from BPN can be advantageous. However, the acronym BPN is less common than B.Sc. Nursing; it is primarily used in specific institutional contexts or older curricula.
