Body Odor
Full Form of BO
What is BO?
Body Odor (BO) is the unpleasant smell produced when sweat from the apocrine glands mixes with bacteria on the skin. In India, where high humidity and temperatures are common, BO is a frequent concern, leading to widespread use of deodorants, talcum powders, and natural remedies like sandalwood paste. The term is used informally in daily conversations about hygiene and grooming, as well as in medical discussions related to hyperhidrosis or bromhidrosis. Socially, managing BO is considered essential for personal care in workplaces, schools, and public transport. Although not a direct exam topic, knowledge of sweat glands and skin bacteria appears in Class 10 and 12 biology, and practical awareness of hygiene is tested in competitive nursing or paramedical entrance exams. Awareness campaigns by the Indian government and NGOs often include BO management as part of overall health education.
