Aadhaar Zonal Centre
Full Form of AZC
What is AZC?
An Aadhaar Zonal Centre (AZC) is a regional administrative unit established by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to coordinate and manage Aadhaar-related operations within a designated geographic zone. These centres oversee enrollment, updates, and grievance redressal for Aadhaar services, ensuring consistent implementation of the Aadhaar ecosystem across states and union territories. AZCs act as intermediaries between UIDAI headquarters and local enrollment agencies, handling logistics, quality checks, and data verification. They also conduct training for enrollment operators and resolve region-specific issues such as demographic updates or biometric failures. The AZC network became crucial after the Aadhaar programme expanded rapidly post-2010, linking identity to welfare schemes, bank accounts, and mobile services. In competitive exams like UPSC, RBI Grade B, or NABARD, questions may ask about the role of AZCs in UIDAI’s decentralised governance structure, especially in context of data security and last-mile service delivery.
