Andhra University Act
Full Form of AUACT
What is AUACT?
The Andhra University Act of 1926 was a landmark legislative enactment passed by the Madras Legislative Council that led to the establishment of Andhra University, one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in India. The act laid the legal foundation for the institution, defining its powers, structure, and administrative framework. It established the roles of key authorities including the Chancellor, Vice-Chancellor, Senate, Syndicate, and Academic Council, along with provisions for conferring degrees, affiliating colleges, and conducting examinations. Situated initially in Waltair, Visakhapatnam, the university became a beacon of higher learning in coastal Andhra and Telugu-speaking regions, producing notable scholars, scientists, and administrators over the decades. The university was the first to be established in a linguistic state during the British era, making the act historically significant in India's education history. Over the years, the Andhra University Act has undergone several amendments to align with modern educational policies. The legislation is frequently referenced in question papers of APPSC, state civil services, UGC NET, and various competitive examinations covering Indian education history and state polity.
