Aadhaar Face Update
Full Form of AFU
What is AFU?
Aadhaar Face Update (AFU) is a digital service provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) that allows Aadhaar card holders to update their facial photograph without visiting an enrollment centre. Using a smartphone or a computer with a webcam, residents can capture a new face image and submit it online through the official UIDAI portal or myAadhaar app. This service was introduced to simplify the update process, especially for individuals who have aged or changed appearance since their original enrollment, ensuring their Aadhaar remains valid for biometric authentication. AFU is widely used across India, particularly in rural areas where access to physical Aadhaar centers is limited. It supports the government's Digital India initiative by enabling contactless, paperless updates. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and banking, questions often test knowledge of Aadhaar-related services, including AFU as a key facility for maintaining accurate biometric data. The process involves a one-time password (OTP) verification and a nominal fee, with the updated image being reflected within a few days. AFU enhances security and convenience, reducing the need for in-person visits.
