Aadhaar Authentication Backend
Full Form of AAB
What is AAB?
The Aadhaar Authentication Backend (AAB) is the technical infrastructure that powers the real-time verification of Aadhaar numbers in India. Managed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the backend handles biometric and demographic authentication requests from service providers such as banks, telecom companies, and government departments. When a resident submits their Aadhaar number and a fingerprint or OTP, the request travels securely to the AAB, which matches it against the central Aadhaar database and returns a yes/no response without revealing personal details. This system enables direct benefit transfers, e-KYC, and paperless verification across sectors. The AAB is critical for India's digital public infrastructure and is frequently tested in exams like UPSC, banking, and RBI Grade B under topics related to governance, technology, and financial inclusion. Its design emphasises privacy, scalability, and minimal data sharing, making it a model for identity platforms globally.
