Full Form of VUO
What is VUO?
The Village Upliftment Officer (VUO) is a grassroots-level government functionary appointed under various state rural development departments across India. The officer is primarily responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising development schemes aimed at improving infrastructure, sanitation, health, and livelihood in designated village clusters. Working closely with the Block Development Officer (BDO) and the elected Sarpanch, the VUO plays a key role in implementing flagship programmes like MGNREGA, the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and the Swachh Bharat Mission at the village level. The position is commonly found in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, where it forms an important administrative link between the state government and rural communities. Candidates aspiring for this role typically appear for state-level public service commission examinations or district-level recruitment drives conducted by the respective rural development boards. The post is frequently tested in competitive exams conducted by UPSC and state PSCs under general studies and rural development papers.
