Virtual Network Computing
Full Form of VNC
What is VNC?
Virtual Network Computing, commonly known as VNC, is a graphical desktop sharing system that uses the Remote Frame Buffer protocol to remotely control another computer. It transmits keyboard and mouse inputs from one machine to another while relaying graphical screen updates back over a network connection, allowing users to operate a distant computer as if they were sitting right in front of it. In India, VNC has gained significant traction among IT professionals, software developers, and remote support teams working in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune. Several Indian IT companies use VNC-based solutions to provide technical assistance to clients abroad, troubleshoot servers in data centres, and enable employees to access office workstations from home. Educational institutions also use VNC to manage computer labs and allow students to access specialised software remotely. Popular open-source implementations such as TigerVNC, RealVNC, and TightVNC are widely used across Indian enterprises. For competitive exams like UGC NET Computer Science, GATE, and various IT certifications, understanding VNC and remote desktop protocols forms an important part of the networking syllabus.
