Vulnerability Management Program
Full Form of VMP
What is VMP?
VMP stands for Vulnerability Management Program, a systematic and continuous approach used by organisations to identify, evaluate, prioritise, and remediate security weaknesses in their IT infrastructure. In India, VMPs have become increasingly important as businesses, banks, and government bodies digitise their operations and face rising cyber threats from both domestic and international actors. The program typically includes regular network scanning, patch management, risk assessment, and compliance reporting aligned with frameworks like ISO 27001, CERT-In guidelines, and the DPDP Act. Indian IT service companies, BFSI institutions, and even public sector undertakings now maintain dedicated VMP teams to safeguard customer data and maintain regulatory compliance. Professionals working in cybersecurity, ethical hacking, or information security audit roles are expected to understand VMP workflows thoroughly. For competitive exams such as those conducted by ISACA, CISCO, or even SSC and UPSC technical posts, familiarity with vulnerability management concepts including CVSS scoring, SIEM integration, and remediation timelines is often tested as part of the information security syllabus.
