Very Light Vehicle
Full Form of VLV
What is VLV?
The Very Light Vehicle or VLV is a classification used by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) in India to categorise small, lightweight motor vehicles. VLV generally refers to two-wheelers and three-wheelers with engine capacity not exceeding 50cc, or non-gear mopeds and lightweight scooters that do not fall under the regular two-wheeler category. In India, applicants who wish to operate such vehicles must obtain a VLV endorsement on their driving licence from the local RTO. The VLV licence is often the first step for new drivers in India, particularly teenagers and young adults who want to legally ride mopeds on public roads. It is widely recognised across Indian states and is routinely issued by transport authorities in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The classification helps authorities distinguish between different motor vehicles for licensing, insurance, and road safety purposes. For Indian students and job seekers, understanding VLV is useful when applying for government transport-related positions or when appearing for competitive exams that include general knowledge about road transport and licensing systems.
