What is VLS?
The Vertical Launching System, commonly known as VLS, is an advanced missile launching technology used on modern naval warships to fire multiple types of missiles vertically from cells or canisters embedded in the deck of a ship. In India, the VLS forms a critical component of the Indian Navy's combat capability and is fitted on the Kolkata-class and Visakhapatnam-class guided-missile destroyers, as well as the upcoming Nilgiri-class stealth frigates.
