What is VHR?
VHR or Very High Resolution refers to imagery, displays, or data that possesses an exceptionally high level of detail and clarity. In India, the term is most commonly associated with satellite imagery, digital photography, surveillance systems, and modern display technologies. The Indian Space Research Organisation, along with several private companies operating in the country, provides VHR satellite images that are extensively used for urban planning, agricultural monitoring, defence surveillance, and disaster management operations. State governments and survey departments rely heavily on VHR imagery to digitise land records, monitor encroachments, identify illegal constructions, and update cadastral maps. The term also appears frequently in the consumer electronics market, where manufacturers use it to describe premium smartphone cameras, computer monitors, and televisions offering superior pixel density and sharper picture quality. In academic settings and competitive examinations, particularly those related to geography, remote sensing, and information technology, VHR is a frequently tested concept.
