What is VGA?
VGA stands for Video Graphics Array, a display standard originally introduced by IBM in 1987 for computer monitors. It refers to both the analog video signal format and the physical 15-pin DE-15 connector that became the standard interface for connecting monitors, projectors, and televisions to computers for nearly three decades. VGA supports a maximum resolution of 640x480 pixels in its original form, though later extensions like SVGA and XGA pushed these limits further. In India, VGA ports were widely used in offices, schools, cyber cafes, and homes for connecting desktop PCs to CRT monitors and later LCD screens. Most projectors in Indian classrooms, conference halls, and government training centres still rely on VGA connections because of their universal compatibility with older equipment. Although modern displays now favour HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C, VGA remains relevant in legacy systems across Indian IT setups, educational institutions, and public sector offices.
