What is VFX?
Visual Effects, commonly abbreviated as VFX, refers to the process of creating, manipulating, or enhancing imagery in film, television, advertising, and digital media using computer-generated imagery and software-based techniques. In India, the VFX industry has witnessed tremendous growth over the last decade, driven by Bollywood productions, Hollywood outsourcing projects, and the booming OTT streaming sector. Indian studios such as DNEG, Red Chillies VFX, Prana Studios, and Tata Elxsi have gained global recognition for delivering high-quality visual effects on international blockbusters as well as domestic films like Baahubali and Brahmastra. VFX is widely used in Indian cinema for creating fantastical sequences, mythological recreations, historical dramas, superhero films, and high-budget commercials. The Indian government has supported the sector through dedicated animation and visual effects policies in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana. For students, VFX offers promising careers in animation, compositing, 3D modeling, and motion graphics, and is occasionally referenced in media studies and information technology examinations.
