Visual FoxPro
Full Form of VFP
What is VFP?
Visual FoxPro, commonly abbreviated as VFP, is a data-centric object-oriented procedural programming language developed by Microsoft. Originally launched in 1984 as FoxPro, it was rebranded as Visual FoxPro after Microsoft acquired it in 1992, adding graphical development tools and integration with Windows. VFP combines a powerful database engine with a programming language, allowing developers to build desktop applications, manage relational databases, and create data-driven solutions quickly. In India, Visual FoxPro has long been a part of computer science curricula in universities across states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, particularly for BCA, MCA, and B.Sc. Computer Science students. Many Indian software training institutes in cities like Pune, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad have offered VFP courses for building accounting software, inventory systems, and small business management tools. Microsoft officially discontinued Visual FoxPro in 2007, yet it still appears in some Indian university exam papers and legacy banking applications. For competitive exams and academic assessments, students may encounter questions on VFP commands, database concepts, and procedural programming fundamentals within older computer awareness syllabi.
