Vocational Education Qualification
Full Form of VEQ
What is VEQ?
Vocational Education Qualification, commonly abbreviated as VEQ, refers to a recognised credential or certification awarded to individuals who have successfully completed a structured programme of vocational or skill-based training. In India, this concept plays a significant role within the framework of the Skill India Mission, the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and various Sector Skill Councils that aim to make Indian youth employable across industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, IT, retail, and hospitality. VEQs are typically mapped to the National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF), which standardises learning outcomes across levels 1 to 10. These qualifications are awarded by bodies like the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT) and various Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) spread across the country. School students often pursue VEQs alongside their regular academics under the centrally sponsored Samagra Shiksha scheme. For competitive examinations such as SSC, state PSCs, and railway recruitments that test general awareness, understanding the terminology of Indian vocational education and its governing bodies is frequently useful.
