Verified by Visa
Full Form of VBV
What is VBV?
Verified by Visa, commonly abbreviated as VBV, is an additional security layer developed by Visa to authenticate cardholders during online transactions. When a customer uses a Visa debit or credit card to make a purchase on an e-commerce website, the VBV system prompts the user to enter a personal password or a one-time password sent to their registered mobile number before the transaction is approved. In India, almost every major bank that issues Visa debit cards automatically enrols customers into the VBV programme, making it a standard safeguard for online shopping, bill payments, ticket bookings, and UPI-linked card transactions. The service helps prevent unauthorised use of card details stolen through phishing or data breaches. Banks often notify customers to register for VBV through net banking or mobile banking platforms. Understanding VBV is useful for candidates preparing for banking awareness sections of IBPS, SBI, and RBI exams, as questions on digital payment security frequently appear.
