Uttarakhand Youth Hostel
Full Form of UYH
What is UYH?
The Uttarakhand Youth Hostel (UYH) is a state-affiliated accommodation network that provides affordable lodging to young travelers, students, pilgrims, and backpackers exploring the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. Operating under the broader framework of India's youth hostelling movement, UYH facilities are typically located near popular trekking routes, pilgrimage circuits, and educational hubs across districts like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Joshimath, Uttarkashi, and Nainital. These hostels offer dormitory-style rooms, shared kitchens, common recreational halls, and basic amenities at nominal charges, making budget travel accessible to school and college students, research scholars, and working professionals on tight schedules. The hostels witness peak footfall during the summer vacation period, the Char Dham Yatra season between May and October, and the adventure trekking months when visitors from across India and abroad arrive in the state. Membership is granted through affiliated student organisations and travel clubs, and the hostels actively promote responsible, low-cost tourism in ecologically sensitive zones. For competitive examinations such as the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, state tourism board recruitment, and tourism management entrance tests, general awareness about state-run welfare and tourism organisations including UYH is occasionally included in the general knowledge and current affairs sections.
