Uttaranchal Youth Congress
Full Form of UYC
What is UYC?
The Uttaranchal Youth Congress, commonly abbreviated as UYC, is the official youth wing of the Indian National Congress (INC) operating in the state of Uttarakhand, which was known as Uttaranchal until 2007. It functions as a feeder organisation for the parent party, mobilising young people between the ages of 18 and 35 for political, social, and cultural activities across the hill state. The UYC plays an active role in student outreach, grassroots campaigning, and policy advocacy, often voicing concerns about unemployment, education reforms, environmental conservation, and migration from the Himalayan region. Headquartered in Dehradun, the organisation regularly conducts leadership training camps, membership drives, public rallies, and awareness programmes on national and state-level issues. The UYC works in close coordination with the Indian Youth Congress (IYC), the national-level youth wing of the party, and supports the Congress organisation during elections by campaigning, managing booth-level operations, and coordinating with district-level units. For students preparing for competitive exams, recognising such political party-wing abbreviations is helpful, as questions about Indian political structures frequently appear in UPSC Civil Services, SSC, and state PSC examinations.
