Ultra-Wideband
Full Form of UWB
What is UWB?
Ultra-Wideband (UWB) is a short-range wireless communication technology that transmits data across a very wide frequency spectrum, typically exceeding 500 MHz of bandwidth. Unlike traditional narrowband systems, UWB uses extremely low power levels spread across multiple frequencies, allowing it to coexist with other wireless technologies without causing significant interference. In India, UWB technology is steadily gaining traction in smartphones, smart home devices, and IoT applications, with brands like Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi integrating UWB chips in their flagship handsets sold in the Indian market. It is commonly used for precise indoor positioning, contactless payments, secure device-to-device communication, and digital car keys. Indian tech companies and startups based in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune are actively exploring UWB for industrial automation, warehouse tracking, and healthcare monitoring. The technology is also covered in electronics and communication engineering curricula across IITs, NITs, and IIITs. For students preparing for GATE, UGC NET, or PSU recruitment exams in electronics and telecommunications, understanding UWB principles, modulation schemes, and its comparison with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi is becoming increasingly important.
