What is USU?
Uttarakhand Sanskrit University (USU) is a state-funded residential university located in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, India. Established in 2005 by the Uttarakhand government, the university is dedicated to the promotion, preservation, and research of Sanskrit language along with ancient Indian knowledge systems including Vedic studies, classical literature, astrology, philosophy, and traditional sciences. It offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes across multiple faculties such as Sahitya, Vyakaran, Jyotish, Darshana, and Vedic studies. The university operates constituent colleges spread across the state and runs Acharya and Shastri degree programmes that are valued by students preparing for competitive academic and teaching careers. USU is recognised by the University Grants Commission and plays a significant role in reviving classical Indian learning in the Himalayan region. It frequently conducts national seminars, workshops, and research collaborations focused on Sanskrit manuscripts, Indology, and Dharmic studies.
