What is UP?

UP stands for Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in India and one of the largest in terms of area. Located in the northern part of the country, it shares its borders with states like Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, as well as the national capital territory of Delhi. The state was officially renamed from the United Provinces to Uttar Pradesh on January 24, 1950, after the adoption of the Indian Constitution. Lucknow serves as its capital, while Kanpur, Agra, Varanasi, and Allahabad are among its major cities. UP plays a significant role in Indian politics, often referred to as the political heartland of the country, and contributes the largest number of seats to the Lok Sabha.
