What is UOC?
The University of Calicut, commonly abbreviated as UOC, is one of the largest public state universities in India, established in 1968 and located in Thenjipalam in the Malappuram district of Kerala. Founded to address the growing demand for higher education in the Malabar region, it operates under the Calicut University Act of 1975 and serves as a vital academic hub for the northern districts of Kerala including Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Wayanad, and Kannur. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and diploma programmes across diverse disciplines such as arts, science, commerce, management, engineering, law, and education through hundreds of affiliated colleges and its own teaching departments. UOC plays a central role in shaping Kerala's academic landscape, awarding degrees to lakhs of students every year and conducting major entrance examinations for admissions. Recognised by the University Grants Commission and accredited with high grades by NAAC, it consistently features in the National Institutional Ranking Framework. For aspirants preparing for Kerala PSC, NET, SET, or other competitive examinations, familiarity with UOC's examination pattern, affiliated institutions, and academic procedures often proves useful.
