Universal House of Justice
Full Form of UHJ
What is UHJ?
The Universal House of Justice (UHJ) is the supreme governing institution of the Bahá'í Faith, established in 1963 and headquartered in Haifa, Israel, on the slopes of Mount Carmel. It consists of nine members elected every five years by electors representing Bahá'í communities across the world, and it serves as the head of the global Bahá'í administrative order. The body issues authoritative messages, settles doctrinal questions, and provides spiritual and administrative guidance to believers in every country. India holds an important place in the Bahá'í world, home to the iconic Lotus Temple in New Delhi, which welcomes millions of visitors annually, and to thriving local assemblies in cities such as Indore, Lucknow, and Mumbai. The UHJ's principles of religious unity, gender equality, and the oneness of humanity align closely with India's pluralistic heritage. For students preparing for UPSC, civil services, or competitive examinations covering comparative religion, world governance models, or international non-state institutions, familiarity with the UHJ offers useful reference value.
