Thermostatic Expansion Valve
Full Form of TXV
What is TXV?
A Thermostatic Expansion Valve, commonly known as TXV, is a precision refrigeration and air conditioning component that regulates the flow of liquid refrigerant entering the evaporator coil of a cooling system. It plays a critical role in maintaining optimal pressure and temperature inside the evaporator, ensuring that the refrigerant absorbs heat efficiently from the surrounding environment for effective cooling. In India, TXVs are widely used in split and window air conditioners, commercial refrigeration units, cold storage facilities, supermarkets, and industrial cooling systems, especially given the country's hot tropical climate and the rapidly growing demand for air conditioning solutions. The valve operates by sensing the temperature at the evaporator outlet through a remote bulb sensor and adjusting the refrigerant flow accordingly using a spring-loaded diaphragm mechanism. It is an essential topic in mechanical engineering, HVAC technology, and refrigeration courses offered across polytechnics, ITIs, and engineering colleges throughout India. Students preparing for competitive exams like GATE, SSC JE, RRB, and state-level technical recruitment tests often study TXV functioning as part of their thermodynamics and refrigeration syllabus, making it a key concept in Indian technical education.
