What is TXM?
Text Mining, sometimes abbreviated as TXM, refers to the process of deriving meaningful information, patterns, and insights from unstructured textual data using techniques drawn from natural language processing, statistics, machine learning, and data analytics. It involves converting raw text into structured formats, identifying recurring themes, sentiment trends, named entities, and hidden relationships that would otherwise remain buried within large volumes of documents. In India, text mining has gained significant traction across sectors such as banking for fraud detection from customer communications, e-commerce for analysing product reviews in multiple regional languages, healthcare for extracting insights from clinical notes, and government for policy analysis and grievance monitoring. Indian IT majors like TCS, Infosys, and Wipro actively build text mining solutions for global clients, and startups in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune use it for chatbots and voice assistants trained on Indian languages. The technique is widely taught in engineering, computer science, and data science programmes across IITs, IIITs, and private universities.
