Tajikistani Somoni
Full Form of TJS
What is TJS?
The Tajikistani Somoni, represented by the international currency code TJS, is the official currency of the Republic of Tajikistan, a landlocked Central Asian country sharing borders with Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China. Introduced in 1995 to replace the Tajikistani ruble, the Somoni is subdivided into 100 diram and is issued and managed by the National Bank of Tajikistan, with the symbol SM. In India, TJS is primarily encountered in foreign exchange dealings, international banking settlements, and bilateral trade documentation involving Tajikistan. Indian banks, especially those maintaining correspondent relationships in Central Asia, publish TJS exchange rate data for businesses importing textiles, pharmaceuticals, dry fruits, and aluminium from the region. Since the Somoni is not a majorly traded currency on retail forex platforms, conversions against the Indian Rupee are usually calculated through the US Dollar as an intermediate route. Chartered accountants, customs officials, and importers regularly reference TJS during cross-border invoicing and remittance processing. For aspirants preparing for banking and government competitive examinations such as IBPS, RBI Grade B, and SSC, understanding global currency codes including TJS is helpful, as questions on world currencies appear frequently in the general awareness and financial awareness sections.
