Technology Innovation Hub

What is TIH?

Technology Innovation Hubs (TIHs) are specialised centres established across India to drive research, development, and commercialisation in frontier technologies. Set up under the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) by NITI Aayog, each TIH is hosted at a leading institution such as an IIT, IISc, or other premier research body in the country. These hubs focus on emerging areas including artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, internet of things, data science, blockchain, and additive manufacturing, among several others. The primary role of TIHs is to bridge the gap between academic research and industry application by supporting startups, funding prototypes, conducting skill development programmes, and collaborating with global technology leaders. There are currently around 25 TIHs operating across India, each specialising in a specific technology domain. TIHs play a critical role in strengthening India's deep-tech ecosystem and advancing the vision of self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state public service commissions, knowledge of TIHs and their parent Atal Innovation Mission is frequently tested under the science, technology, and government schemes sections.
