What is TIE?
The Indus Entrepreneurs, commonly known as TiE, is a global non-profit organization dedicated to fostering entrepreneurship across the world, with a particularly strong presence in India. Founded in 1992 in Silicon Valley by a group of successful Indian entrepreneurs including Kanwal Rekhi, TiE was created to support and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs, especially those of South Asian origin. In India, TiE operates through numerous chapters in major cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Pune, hosting events, mentorship programs, and investor networking sessions that connect startup founders with industry veterans and venture capitalists. The organization plays a vital role in India's booming startup ecosystem, helping early-stage ventures gain access to funding, guidance, and business development resources. TiE also conducts flagship events like TiECon, a major conference for entrepreneurs, and runs programs such as TiE Young Entrepreneurs (TYE) aimed at nurturing entrepreneurial skills among school students. For competitive exam aspirants, understanding TiE is useful in general knowledge and current affairs sections related to startup policy and entrepreneurship in India.
