What is THT?

Through-Hole Technology, commonly abbreviated as THT, is a method of mounting electronic components onto a printed circuit board (PCB) by inserting the component leads through pre-drilled holes and soldering them to copper pads on the opposite side of the board. In India, THT has been the dominant assembly technique for several decades, particularly in power electronics, industrial control equipment, and military-grade hardware manufactured in industrial hubs such as Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, and Noida. Although surface mount technology has largely replaced THT in compact consumer devices, through-hole components continue to be widely used in applications that demand strong mechanical strength, high current handling, heat dissipation, and easy manual replacement.
