What is TEN?
Tamil Nadu, often abbreviated as TN or TEN, is one of the 28 states of India, situated at the southeastern tip of the Indian subcontinent along the Bay of Bengal coastline. The state shares its borders with Kerala, Karnataka, and Andhra Pradesh, and its capital is Chennai, formerly known as Madras. Tamil Nadu holds immense historical and cultural significance, being home to ancient Dravidian temple architecture, UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Mahabalipuram and the Brihadeeswarar Temple at Thanjavur, and the classical dance form Bharatanatyam. The Tamil language, spoken widely across the state, is officially recognised as one of the world's oldest classical languages. Economically, Tamil Nadu is a powerhouse, ranking among the top contributors to India's GDP with thriving automobile manufacturing, information technology, textiles, and medical tourism sectors. Major companies such as Hyundai, Ford, and numerous IT firms operate from Chennai and other cities like Coimbatore and Madurai. For competitive examinations including UPSC, TNPSC, SSC, and banking exams, students frequently encounter questions about Tamil Nadu's geography, rivers like the Kaveri, administrative divisions, and its role in India's industrial development.
