Tribal Development Corporation
Full Form of TDC
What is TDC?
Tribal Development Corporation (TDC) refers to state-level government bodies established across India to promote the socio-economic upliftment of Scheduled Tribes and tribal communities. These corporations function under the administrative control of the relevant state governments, typically operating through the Ministry of Tribal Affairs or equivalent state departments. The primary objective of a TDC is to implement welfare schemes that provide financial assistance, marketing support for forest and agricultural produce, training programmes, and employment generation activities specifically targeted at tribal populations. Several Indian states including Odisha, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana have their own TDCs working actively in tribal-dominated districts. They collaborate with national bodies like the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) to extend credit and entrepreneurial support to tribal families. TDCs also play a role in executing the Forest Rights Act by helping tribals access markets for minor forest produce such as tendu leaves, sal seeds, and medicinal herbs. For competitive examinations such as UPSC, state PSCs, and SSC, questions on tribal welfare organisations and their functions are commonly asked in general awareness sections.
