What is SHM?
Simple Harmonic Motion, commonly abbreviated as SHM, is a fundamental concept in physics that describes a specific type of repetitive back-and-forth movement where the restoring force acting on a body is directly proportional to its displacement from the equilibrium position. In India, SHM is a core topic in the Class 11 and Class 12 physics syllabus prescribed by CBSE, ICSE, and various state education boards. It forms the foundation for understanding more advanced phenomena such as wave motion, oscillations in electrical circuits, and the behaviour of pendulums and spring-mass systems.
