Software Export Promotion Board
Full Form of SEPB
What is SEPB?
The Software Export Promotion Board (SEPB) was a government body under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) in India, established to promote and facilitate the export of software and IT services. It functioned as a key policy advisory and coordination forum, bringing together representatives from industry associations like NASSCOM, central and state government departments, and financial institutions. The SEPB played a crucial role in formulating strategies to boost India's software exports, addressing issues related to infrastructure, taxation, intellectual property, and market access. It was instrumental in the early growth of the Indian IT sector, especially during the 1990s and early 2000s, before its functions were largely subsumed by MeitY and other agencies like STPI and Software Technology Parks of India. The board met periodically to review export performance, identify barriers, and recommend remedial measures. While not as active today, its legacy continues in India's current policies for IT export promotion. The SEPB is occasionally referenced in government documents and historical analyses of India's IT boom. For examinations like UPSC, the SEPB is relevant as an example of institutional support for the knowledge economy.
