What is RTK?
RTK stands for Real-Time Kinematic, a sophisticated satellite positioning technique that significantly improves the accuracy of GNSS-based location data derived from systems like GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and India's own NavIC constellation. Unlike standard GPS receivers that typically offer metre-level precision, RTK systems can achieve centimetre-level accuracy by using a fixed base station and a roving receiver to correct signal errors in real time. In India, RTK technology has become increasingly important with the rapid rise of drone-based surveying, large infrastructure projects like Bharatmala and Sagarmala, and the government's push for digital land records under the Digital India Land Records Modernisation Programme.
