Rajasthan State Legislature
Full Form of RSL
What is RSL?
The Rajasthan State Legislature, commonly abbreviated as RSL, is the unicameral legislative body of the state of Rajasthan in India. It consists of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, also known as the Vidhan Sabha, which is housed at the Vidhan Sabha Bhawan in Jaipur, the state capital. Unlike some other Indian states, Rajasthan does not have a Legislative Council, making its legislature a single-house system since the state's formation. The primary role of the RSL is to enact laws on state subjects, approve the annual state budget, and hold the state government accountable through question hours, debates, and parliamentary committees. Members of the Assembly, known as MLAs, are directly elected by the people of Rajasthan for a term of five years, unless dissolved earlier. The Speaker presides over the Assembly's proceedings, which are conducted primarily in Hindi with English also being used. For candidates preparing for the RPSC, RAS, and other Rajasthan-specific competitive examinations, knowledge of the structure, functions, and historical evolution of the RSL is an important topic in the Indian polity and state-general-knowledge syllabi.
