Rural Godown Development
Full Form of RGD
What is RGD?
Rural Godown Development (RGD) is a government scheme in India aimed at providing financial assistance to farmers, cooperatives, and entrepreneurs for constructing godowns or storage facilities in rural areas. Launched under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) managed by NABARD, the scheme addresses post-harvest losses by enabling scientific storage of agricultural produce. It allows beneficiaries to store crops safely, access better market prices, and avail pledge loans against stored commodities. The scheme is especially relevant for small and marginal farmers who lack proper storage infrastructure. RGD is widely used across Indian states to strengthen the agricultural supply chain and promote food security. It is often mentioned in competitive exams like RBI Grade B, NABARD, and UPSC in questions related to rural infrastructure and government schemes. The scheme covers a significant portion of the project cost as a grant or loan, with subsidies varying by region and farmer category.
