Rashtriya Free WiFi
Full Form of RFW
What is RFW?
Rashtriya Free WiFi (RFW) is a government initiative under the Digital India programme aimed at providing free wireless internet access in rural and underserved areas across India. Launched by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, the scheme involves setting up public WiFi hotspots in villages, panchayats, schools, and healthcare centres to bridge the digital divide. RFW is used by students, farmers, small business owners, and government employees to access online services, educational resources, and e-governance platforms. It is especially relevant in aspirational districts where internet penetration is low. The initiative also supports the National Digital Communications Policy's goal of universal connectivity. For competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, and state-level services, RFW appears as a topic in questions related to digital inclusion, public infrastructure, and flagship government schemes. The project is often implemented in partnership with state governments and private internet service providers to ensure cost-effective rollout and maintenance.
