Quarterly Wage Notification
Full Form of QWN
What is QWN?
Quarterly Wage Notification (QWN) is a formal document issued by the Government of India, typically through the Ministry of Labour and Employment or state labour departments, to announce revised minimum wage rates for different sectors and skill levels. It is published every three months to account for inflation, cost of living adjustments, and industry-specific changes. QWNs are crucial for employers, trade unions, and workers across organized and unorganized sectors, ensuring compliance with the Minimum Wages Act, 1948. In India, these notifications are released for scheduled employments such as agriculture, construction, factories, and domestic work. State governments often publish separate QWNs for their regions, making it essential for businesses and HR departments to track updates. The document includes wage slabs based on geographical zones and categories like unskilled, semi-skilled, skilled, and highly skilled workers. QWNs are used during payroll processing, audits, and labour inspections. They are also relevant for students preparing for competitive exams like UPSC, SSC, or banking, as labour laws and wage policies are part of the general awareness syllabus. Understanding QWN helps in grasping India’s socio-economic framework and labour welfare mechanisms.
