Quality Management Programme
Full Form of QMP
What is QMP?
The Quality Management Programme (QMP) is a flagship initiative of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in India, launched under the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Programme (NMCP) in 2008. Its primary objective is to enhance the quality standards of MSMEs by promoting the adoption of quality management systems, tools, and techniques such as ISO 9001, Six Sigma, and Total Quality Management. The programme provides financial assistance, training, and consultancy support to help small units achieve international quality certifications, thereby improving their competitiveness in domestic and global markets. QMP is implemented through designated agencies like the National Productivity Council, Indian Institute of Quality Management, and various industry associations. It is widely used across manufacturing and service sectors, particularly in clusters of micro and small enterprises. For competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and banking, understanding QMP is relevant under the topics of government schemes, industrial policy, and MSME development. The programme has significantly contributed to upgrading the quality infrastructure of Indian industries, reducing waste, and increasing customer satisfaction. By fostering a culture of continuous improvement, QMP aligns with the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' missions, making it a cornerstone of India’s industrial policy reform. Regular audits and monitoring ensure that the benefits reach the intended beneficiaries, and the programme has been revised periodically to address emerging challenges in quality management.
