What is QKE?
Quantum Key Encryption (QKE) is a cryptographic protocol that leverages quantum mechanical properties, such as superposition and entanglement, to securely generate and distribute encryption keys. Unlike classical encryption, which relies on mathematical complexity, QKE ensures that any attempt to eavesdrop on the key exchange is immediately detectable due to quantum measurement disturbances. In India, QKE is a focal area under the National Quantum Mission (2023), aimed at developing unhackable communication networks for defence, banking, and government sectors. The technology is primarily explored in research institutions like the Indian Institute of Science, DRDO, and ISRO, and is expected to be deployed in satellite-based secure links and fibre-optic networks for critical infrastructure.
