Quarterly General Orders
Full Form of QGO
What is QGO?
Quarterly General Orders (QGO) are official administrative directives issued by the Indian Armed Forces—including the Army, Navy, and Air Force—every three months. These orders cover a range of personnel and administrative matters such as promotions, postings, disciplinary actions, pay and allowances, leave rules, and procedural updates. QGOs consolidate all routine orders that do not require immediate issuance as special orders, ensuring systematic and transparent handling of service conditions. In India, each regiment, unit, or formation publishes its own QGO, which serves as a reference document for commanding officers and individual soldiers. The term is frequently encountered in defence examinations like CDS, AFCAT, and SSB interviews, where candidates may be tested on their knowledge of military administration. Understanding QGOs is essential for aspirants seeking careers in the Indian Armed Forces, as they reflect the structured hierarchy and documentation culture of the military.
