Pre-Nursery Zone
Full Form of PNZ
What is PNZ?
A Pre-Nursery Zone (PNZ) is a dedicated space within a school or early childhood centre designed for children aged 2 to 3 years. In India, PNZs have gained importance as more parents enroll their toddlers in structured play-based programs before formal nursery. These zones are equipped with age-appropriate furniture, soft play areas, sensory toys, and learning aids that promote motor skills, social interaction, and basic language development. PNZs are commonly used in private preschools, daycare centres, and kindergarten sections of larger schools, particularly in urban areas where the demand for early education is high. The concept aligns with India's National Education Policy 2020, which emphasises foundational learning from age 3. However, PNZs cater to children just below that threshold, bridging the gap between home care and nursery. For exams like CTET or NTT (Nursery Teacher Training), understanding PNZ pedagogy helps teachers design developmentally appropriate activities. While not a government-mandated term, PNZ is widely recognised in the Indian preschool industry as a distinct phase in early childhood education, differentiating it from nursery and LKG classes.
