Personal Financial Literacy
Full Form of PFL
What is PFL?
Personal Financial Literacy (PFL) refers to the set of knowledge and skills that enable individuals to make informed and effective decisions regarding the management of their financial resources. In the Indian context, PFL has gained prominence as the government and educational institutions recognise the need to equip students and young adults with essential competencies such as budgeting, saving, investing, and understanding credit. It is commonly taught as a module within the school curriculum, particularly under subjects like Social Studies or Commerce, and is also introduced in vocational training programmes. The National Council for Financial and Related Policies (NCFRP) has advocated for integrating PFL into mainstream education to improve financial well-being and reduce debt traps. PFL is used in classrooms, financial literacy camps, and digital learning platforms across the country. For competitive exams like banking and civil services, questions on financial literacy concepts often appear, making PFL a relevant topic for aspirants. By fostering financial discipline early, PFL aims to build a more economically resilient population.
